5:30pm-6:30pm Thurs 10/3, 10/10, 10/17, 10/24, YOTV Teachers
Yin Yoga is a non-impact, restorative practice where the emphasis is on stillness, relaxing into postures, and creating a myofascial stretch that helps to maintain the body's pliability and the full range of movement for the joints. It is an ideal practice for those seeking a meditative, calming experience. It is also a vital practice to balance out the wear and tear of tissues experienced by athletes, and can dramatically reduce the risk of non-contact injuries in the very active.
YIN YOGA WITH THERAPY BALLS
4pm-5pm every other Sat 10/5, 10/19, 11/2, 11/16, Lindsey Provost
This is a non-impact, restorative approach to allowing the deeper, denser connective tissues of the body to release tension and remain healthy.
Combining two great techniques for self-care; yin yoga and therapy ball massage, allowing for a deep tissue release in long held, passive postures. This series is designed to be for anyone and every body…whether you’re interested in starting a wellness regime, looking to balance an already vigorous routine, or land somewhere in the middle.
• 10:30am-11:30am Sat 10/5, 10/19, 10/26, 11/2 - Anne Caldwell
In this class we will practice yoga as it comes naturally to kids, through stories, games, playful activities and many customized yoga songs from Anne's training with Kidding Around Yoga. We will explore traditional yoga poses, mindful movement, and breathwork in a safe, welcoming environment. Together, we will take part in activities that encourage physical and emotional awareness, calming techniques and connect with our own inner wisdom while we learn from each other. Best suited for ages 4 and up. (Dress comfortably for movement, no jeans please.)
YOGA FOR TEENS
• 6:45pm-7:45pm Thurs 10/3, 10/10, 10/17, 10/24 - Anne Caldwell
This yoga class is designed to inspire and empower the students through self expression and a sense of belonging. For most, young adulthood is an awkward, stressful time. This class is a place where the student can be part of a community that is specific to them. Here students will learn fundamental Yoga postures and flows in a supportive, nonjudgemental, non-competitive environment while gaining flexibility, strength and focus. The classes are designed to build self-esteem and to provide techniques which enable the student to learn how to reduce stress though relaxation and breath work.
Our instructor, Anne Caldwell, had been a school teacher for K-12 for almost 2 decades. For the past 3+ years she has taught yoga and mindfulness to pre-school through seniors and whole-family classes. She truly understands the demands on the tween-teen population as teacher and the mom of a tween and teen. Subtly woven into this 4 class series, students will experience themes such as body image, listening to their inner wisdom to make good choices, dealing with peer pressure, healthy coping strategies and how to love ourselves by taking care of ourselves. Appropriate for anyone 12 - 17, please bring water. Dress in whatever allows for full movement and feels comfortable, flannel pajamas included :)
