“Emily and the Strong Martha team are amazing! I've been training with Emily personally for a few months and it's been life changing. I've had back pain for as long as I can remember so was worried I wouldn't be able to workout, but she's made the workouts fun while helping me strengthen my back. I've made so much progress that recently I've even jumped into a boxing class and had the best time!”
“Absolutely love going to Strong Martha! Not just for the amazing boxing and weight lifting classes, but for the community it has created. I have met so many wonderful people all while learning how to box and improve my exercise routine. Emily is an incredible teacher! I highly recommend checking it out!”
“Would definitely recommend for anyone interested! I've been going to strength training in the mornings with Emily for a few months now and it has absolutely helped me feel stronger and be more proactive about taking care of my body while working a physically demanding job. It's a good start to my day and a welcoming place for beginners.”
“Love this gym! Excellent environment that caters to all levels — it was very comfortable to walk in with absolutely zero knowledge of boxing and get shown the ropes. It truly is a community space with a variety of offerings, and an amazing group of trainers that each bring something different to the table.”
“Strong Martha is the real deal! A great boxing gym with supportive instructors that will meet you where you are and take you to your next level. And I love the awesome community too.”
“After starting at Strong Martha, I'm so much more confident in the way I approach weights and training. It's given me a solid foundation that I can now build upon as I progress. Plus, it provides such a warm and supportive community to learn and grow in.”
“Believe it or not Strong Martha is my favorite spot to visit on the island! The trainers are excellent in individualizing my weight training sessions to fit my abilities no matter how many are in the classes. I feel like I'm getting my own personal trainer without the exorbitant costs.”
“Strong Martha was such a wonderful surprise! Emily is beyond generous with her time and facilities. I was in town for work and this gym was the perfect option for my fitness needs while I was on the island! I hope her business and clientele base continue to grow!”

Nope! Our members range in experience from beginner to expert, and we routinely introduce brand new participants into the mix, explaining the basics and then offering guidance throughout.
Definitely not! We reserve partner work for more experienced boxers. Nobody will be throwing punches at your head unless you really want them to, and even then, we'd probably say no.
No, no, and no. We have gloves that are sanitized after every class and wraps that are laundered after every use. While boxing shoes are helpful, they're definitely not necessary to box proficiently or get a good workout. That said, if you're going to come regularly, we'd recommend getting your own gloves and wraps, for a better fit and so you're the only person sweating in them!
Contrary to what you might think, boxing is one of the lowest-risk sports (as long as you're not actually fighting and trying to knock the other person out). There's little risk of typical sports injuries like ankle sprains and back muscle strains, and you can work at your own pace, especially if you're being mindful of an injury or don't feel 100%. Obviously, if you are feeling ill in a way that could be infectious, stay home.
Very few people complain of any hand-related pains or aches from boxing. You wrap your hands and knuckles for protection and support, and then you wear padded boxing gloves designed to absorb impact. And the bags themselves have some give, designed to further reduce stress on your hands, elbows and shoulders.
Nonsense! Boxing can be for anyone. The environment in our classes is casual and friendly, even in the thick of an intense workout, and any sort of competitiveness is replaced by a pervasive camaraderie. And just because you don't consider yourself aggressive doesn't mean you can't whale on the bag. Maybe it'll be the perfect outlet for the frustration and stress you didn't even know you were carrying!
Every class we teach is for all levels, and we're used to running classes that can be intensified for advanced boxers, particularly during one-on-one pad work. And as any boxer knows, you're the one ultimately determining how much you sweat!
